I went to the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles as a plus one for a field trip with UCLA. Although this was a field trip for an interior design class I felt like I learned so much and also got a lot of inspiration. I was able to touch and sit on very expensive textiles and furniture. We went through three floors of different designers. I was so impressed by the creativity used in furniture and textile. Its surprising to hear the kinds of materials used to make the rugs, tables, chairs, etc. What surprised me the most was learning that sting rays are used to make a leather like texture. There was fur from alpacas used for rugs or chairs. I also got to hear from the people who work directly with the clients to pick out their furniture. They mentioned that they can make anything happen for their clients because of the price range. For instance, if they liked a material on a rug but wanted it as curtains, they were able to make it happen for them. One of the guides also mentioned that she came from going to a cal state school to working her way up to this job.
